Mawingu Farm keeps a herd average of 65 cows out of which about 20 are in milk with a daily production of 15 litres. Plans are ongoing to sell around 20 heifers to reduce the herd to 40. Daily operations are supervised by an assistant manager. The farm owner stays in Nairobi and visits once a week. The farm uses a combination of fresh feed – Napier grass, hay and concentrate. To avoid challenges in dry season, the farm has planted hay and is expecting a harvest of 8000 bales. Protein fodder planted in the farm include Lucerne, and Calliandra.
