My name Is Lavender Mutenyo Simiyu.I am Dairy Development officer at Biofoods and has a Bsc in Agricultural Economics. I am livestock enthusiast, with vast hands on dairy farm experience. I have previously worked at University Of Eldoret farm as trainee and a dairy business consultant at SNV (Netherland Development Organisation) under the Kenya Market Led Dairy Programme (KMDP). In all these positions, I have worked directly with farmers supporting them through training and advice on how to improve their farms. As a consultant, I advise farmers in North rift and western Kenya on starting and managing profitable dairy farms. I have been part of the market study team in North rift region and central Kenya that scanned over 500 medium and large scale farms. The Market Study is meant to provide insight in the market opportunities in the Kenyan dairy sector for Dutch ISPIs (Input and Service Providers and Investors). A report of the North rift study can be obtained from https://www.cowsoko.com/programs/kmdp/publications.(26). My interaction with other local dairy consultancy firms i.e Perfometer has built my network of experience to the understanding of different dairy practices done by farmers in the different dairy pockets in Kenya. As one of the experts at cowsoko, an online platform for dairy discussion, I have been able to reach out to different farmers in the whole of Kenya through blogs and dairy advisory. As a Dairy Development Officer, my role is to provide the basic and advanced training of ‘Farming the Bio way’ to farmers in ensuring quality parameters are met as per Biofoods standards.
