Julius Rimberia, a lead farmer supplying milk to Mbwinjeru tripled his income to over Ksh. 33,000 in September, increase which he says is as a result of skills he acquired in a one week training in Mawingu PDTC. Julius attended training in March when his income from the four cows was only Ksh 12,000. At the time, he was feeding on Hay, Pollard, Maize germ, Dairy meal all of which he purchased . After training he improved housing, started conserving silage, stopped using maize germ and pollard, planted sweet potato vines and desmodium, which have reduced his costs and increased milk production.
SNV sponsored 10 lead farmers from the cooperative for a one week training at the PDTCs. Through KMDP, SNV supports Mbwinjeru Dairy Cooperative and 17 others to increase efficiency and improve milk production through innovative models of Training and extension that involves cooperation with input suppliers and service providers.
